By car
To enter the country and drive in Croatia you will need an insurance green card, a valid driving licence and a car registration card.
During the summer months the traffic on border crossings is of higher intensity –which may lead to shorter traffic jams.
The highway A1 Zagreb-Split, since being finished in 2005, supplemnets and connects the two vital European road routes (E 59) Maribor-Zagreb-Split and (E 65) Rijeka-Split-Dubrovnik.
The toll charged on the motorways, semi-motorways and bridges depends of the category of the vehicle and of the section and route of the road. The toll can be paid in cash as well as by Credit Cards (American Express, Diners, Master Card, Maestro, Visa) and in foreign currencies (according to the exchange rate list of PBZ – Privredna Banka Zagreb on the day of the payment).
Most gas stations are open from 7 am until 8 pm, some even 24 hours a day. A lead-free petrol, marked with green indication is sold in all of the gas stations.
Traffic rules in Croatia are: cars drive on the right side of the road. If the traffic signs do not indicate different, the speed limits are as follows: speed limit on the motorways and semi-motorways is 130 km per hour, the limit on a road with double lanes is 100 km per hour, the speed limit in non residential areas is 80 km per hour and in the residential areas, cities, towns and villages the limit is at 50 km per hour.
The amount of traffic fine depends of the traffic violation.
The permitted alcohol level for the driver in Croatia is 0‰.
Croatian Radio (Hrvatski Radio) provides regular Road information in several languages in regular intervals during the day.

By bus
Regular international bus lines connect Croatia to Austria, Italy, Hungary, France, Germany, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and other countries. The autobus transport is the cheapest if You are coming to Croatia from the Middle Europe.
Croatia has a well developed national transport network of bus lines, that reaches even the smallest of villages on the coast.

By train
The railway net connects all bigger Croatian towns except Dubrovnik. Direct lines connect Croatia to Slovenia, Hungary, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro. For other countries there are indirect lines.
Examples of travelling by train: Munchen - Rijeka approximately 9 hours, Vienna - Rijeka approximately 5 hours.

By airoplane
There are regular flights to Zagreb from almost every international airport in Europe, from Zagreb You can easily continue your travel to the coast. In high season, the number of flights are increased and many charter flights take off directly towards the biggest tourist destinations in Croatia.
Croatia Airlines (the national airplane company) regularly connects Amsterdam, Bruxelles, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Helsinki, London, Manchester, München, Paris, Prague, Rome, Sarajevo, Skopje, Tel Aviv, Vienna, Zürich with Croatia, i.e. our international airports Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, and Osijek.
Sport airports in Varaždin, Čakovec, Otočac and Sinj are also well connected, same as the airports on the islands Brac and Losinj, where only smaller airplanes can land.
Examples of duration of the flights: from London to Zagreb 2 hours and 30 minutes, from New York to Zagreb 10 hours and 35 minutes.

By sea
The international ferry and passenger lines connect Italian (Venice, Trieste, Ancona, Pescara and Bari) and Croatian ports on the following ferry relations:
Zadar - (Brbinj/Dugi otok) - Ancona;
Korcula - (Stari Grad/Hvar) - Split - (Vis) - Ancona;
Split - Pescara;
Pula, Umag, Porec, Rovinj, Mali Losinj and Rabac - Venice;
Pula - Rimini;
Dubrovnik - Bari.
Daily ferry line connects the cities of Rijeka and Split the whole year round. The line continuous to Dubrovnik three times a week.
The ferry lines from Rijeka to the south part of the coast (Rijeka - (Rab) - (Zadar) - Split - (Stari Grad/Hvar) - Korcula - (Sobra/Mljet) - Dubrovnik - Bari) are good solution for those drivers who want to avoid the fatiguing drive along the coast. If You are already coming from afar, You can relax on the aboard the ferry until your arrival to the destination of Your vacation.
Regular local ferry and catamaran lines connect islands (Cres, Losinj, Rab, Pag, Ugljan, Pasman, Dugi otok, Iz, Solta, Brac, Hvar, Vis, Korcula, Lastovo, Mljet and peninsula Peljesac) with the land.
