Biokovo

Biokovo is a mountain located in the southwestern part of Croatia. It is the highest mountain on the Croatian territory and is located right next to the coast of the Adriatic Sea. Biokovo has a length of almost 40 kilometers and a range of 10 to 15 kilometers.

Biokovo is older than the Alps and the mountain was formed during the Carboniferous, more than 200 million years ago. Due to its geological structure, Biokovo is extremely diverse and offers different landscapes, from steep rocks to forests and meadows.

There are more than 50 peaks on Biokovo, and the highest peak is Sveti Jure, which is located at a height of 1762 meters. Biokovo is known for its climate, which is different from the rest of Croatia, which is why the mountain is known as the “Little Caucasus”.

Mount Biokovo is extremely popular among hiking enthusiasts. There are more than 50 marked hiking trails on the mountain, and there are also many unmarked trails to explore.

In addition to hiking, Biokovo is also popular among nature lovers. There are more than 800 species of plants on the mountain, several of which are endemic, and more than 100 species of birds.

Biokovo is extremely important for Croatia not only because of its beauty, but also because of its importance in tourism and as a trademark of the environment. The mountain was declared a nature park in 1976, and is under state protection.

Skywalk Biokovo

Skywalk Biokovo, also known as the Sky Walk viewpoint, is one of the newer spectacular attractions located on one of the highest peaks in Croatia, in the Biokovo Nature Park. This unique path is about 400 meters long and offers a beautiful panoramic view of the entire coast of Makarska and the surrounding area.

Skywalk Biokovo is built from quality materials and designed to be safe for visitors of all ages. The path is equipped with safety fences, and there is additional equipment for the safety of visitors so that you do not have to worry about your safety while on the Skywalk.

One of the biggest assets of Skywalk Biokovo is its location. It is part of the Biokovo nature park and is located at a height of about 1,228 meters, which offers incredible views of the Adriatic Sea. The view of the islands of Brač and Hvar, which are located in the distance, is particularly noteworthy.

The Heavenly Promenade viewpoint can be reached by the Biokovo road that leads from the entrance to the Biokovo Nature Park to the highest Biokovo peak, Sv. Jure, which is located at an altitude of 1762 meters.

Skywalk Biokovo is open all year round and offers seasonal discounts for group visits, and visitors can experience this attraction independently or with an expert guide. As part of the “Nebeska setnica” viewpoint, a three-dimensional representation of the sections of the rocks that formed the area of Biokovo from its inception to the present day was made.

If you are a fan of adventures and like to explore unusual locations, Skywalk Biokovo is the right place for you. Visit this attraction and enjoy a spectacular view of the sea and the mountains.

Skywalk Biokovo is located only an hour from our apartment and we decided to visit it with our motorcycle. If you come to the entrance by car, you have to wait because every hour a certain number of cars are allowed into the Biokovo Nature Park itself because the road is quite narrow. On the other side, you can enter immediately with a motorcycle.

On the day of our visit, the entrance fee to the Biokovo Nature Park is HRK 50 (6.63 €) per person, and the working hours of the Skywalk are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00pm every day. It took us about 30 minutes from the entrance ramp to the Skywalk. Ascending the narrow road, we had to stop at several places and take photos of the wonderful view of the Makarska Riviera!

When we got to the “Nebeska setnica” viewpoint, there were only about 15 people. We parked the motorcycle right next to the promenade. And then – wow! We were more than delighted with the promenade – a combination of fear and delight. It takes courage to walk on the promenade because the floor of the observation deck is covered with a glass surface, that is, the observation deck has a glass floor, which makes you feel as if you are walking in the sky, which is both amazing and a little scary at the same time, but it would certainly be a shame not to feel everything the charms of the lookout point, because a visit to the lookout point is definitely breathtaking. Our warm recommendation is to definitely go on this trip, and to include an active vacation in your summer vacation, you certainly won’t regret it.
